HEALTH ALERT

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Flu season has started early. VERY early. Cases have been confirmed in New York, Florida, California, Idaho, and Wyoming.

But your (not so) friendly neighborhood nurse is here with good news, the flu shot may work this year. YAY! Of course you have to have influenza, not a cold or assorted virus, but I digress...

Of the 6 strains of influenza the CDC was able to isolate in nation wide testing since may, all 6 were included in this years formulation. This is a minor miracle. So, if you haven't gotten your flu shot as of yet, please do so immediately if not sooner. About 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and 40,000 die annually...I'd hate for a plimate to become a statistic. Srsly. I'm not sending flowers.

Mr Flu just looks cute and fuzzy, he's a killer!

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

***this has been a test of the emergency broadcast system.***

Getting mine Friday. They're coming to work and giving free flu shots to everyone who's signed up for the health insurance.

Thanks BadBud.
I need to call Visiting Nurse services and see if I can schedule them to come and give shots here at my work.
We used to do it every year but stopped a couple years ago.

Apart from if you have an allergy to eggs, then it would make you really ill.

Best ask your friendly neighbourhood doctor if in any doubt.

Medical advice over the interwebz isn't the greatest idea.

YAY for Emla! I don't why but this hasn't caught on in the US. Even pediatric offices seem to shun it.

Every year I get a flu shot, I get really, really sick.

Every year I don't get a flu shot, I don't get sick.

I'm taking my chances without, thank you.

The spray they use is ok too, but it sometimes really fricken burns.

I think for kids the Emla is fab. For the flu jab, it probably doesn't make a huge difference, but it makes all the difference in my mind.

It's also handy if you find plucking your eyebrows painfully.

Can those in the diamond pattern states please, just stay there. Don't leave your state with your fluish germs.

Also, your neighboring states would take kindly if you cover your mouth while coughing in their general direction.

Thanks.

Oh and BTW... telling you to get your foot out of your ass might be considered medical advice. This however was a health alert.

What's emla cream? I've heard of nose drops vaccine, but not that.

I'm participating in a research study to test the best way to administer this year's flu shots, intramuscularly (normal way) or intradermally (as a bubble under the skin). They're paying me $200 to do the study! And, I'll be protected from the flu. Can't beat that.

Isn't intradermally painful? Like, when a vein blows and the injection goes under the skin, it hurts like hell.

Emla is a local anaesthetic cream. You put it on about a half hour before the injection, and it numbs the skin. It's excellent for blood tests.

I get mine free.... Though, I'm in one of the risk categories so maybe that makes a difference.
