'Big Wave' Theory Offers Alternative to Dark Energy
'Big Wave' Theory Offers Alternative to Dark Energy
Mathematicians have proposed an alternative explanation for the accelerating expansion of the universe that does not rely on the mystifying idea of dark energy.

According to the new proposition, the universe is not accelerating, as observations suggest. Instead, an expanding wave flowing throughout space-time causes distant galaxies to appear to be accelerating away from us. picked by AutumnLotus 3 months ago

Interesting idea, but through what does the wave propagate? Or doesn't a wave, by definition, require some other field of energy to affect to be considered as such?

Again, interesting, but I wouldn't call it "an alternative to 'Dark Energy'."

Schrodin-Juuuuuurrrrrrrrr!

p.s. Those are sincere questions.

OK - I think it goes something like this:

There's a mismatch between the expected and actual amount of stuff in the universe. The stuff there is was all created from the energy released when TBB happened, but there should have been more stuff and so Dark Matter balances the equation.

However, if the universe is not as big as we think it is then that means the explosion at the point of TBB was smaller than previously predicted (retrospectively - postdicted?). The wave that is moving through the universe is the smaller level of excess energy from TBB and it's distortions are making it look like there should be more there than there is.

Or...

It was pixies. One of the two.
