Jupiter's Moon Europa Has Enough Oxygen For Life
Jupiter's Moon Europa Has Enough Oxygen For Life
Jupiter's moon, Europa has ocean water twice as much as all of the Earth. New evidence indicates that not only is there enough oxygen to support microorganisms but perhaps even enough to support greater lifeforms. The time it will take to unlock this oxygen is a good sign for eventual life as it gives time for organisms to evolve protection against oxygen's harmful effects. picked by bernardblack 2 months ago

This type of news seems to be happening every other day now. The Moon produces its own water, asteroids can produce their own water too, asteroid 24 Themis has ice on the surface, Mars has more water than we thought, Europa has much more oxygen than we thought...every one of these discoveries makes the Solar System a tiny bit less of a dead and forbidding place and just a little bit easier to colonize. Actually a lot easier to colonize in some cases (the Moon and asteroids).

« Mithridates: easier to colonize in some cases (the Moon and asteroids).
One of the reasons (the most important one) to colonize other planets/moons is that in a few billion years our sun will start its transformation to a red dwarf. When that happens it will first start to grow enormously, engulfing most of its orbitting planets, including the earth.
There wouldn't be much use in colonizing our moon because it will be destroyed like most of the rest of our solar system.
I'm not sure about which planet would be safe(r), but after the sun has reached its maximum diameter it will start to shrink to a fraction of its original size, emitting but a fraction of its current heat, light and other radiation, leaving our future colony cold, dark and virtually uninhabitable..

If we aren't advanced enough to harness all of the energy from a single sun by then (Stage 2 Civilization), living on asteroids and moons probably isn't going to cut it.

I bet a month salary, there will be no humans around 500'000'000 years from now. That is half billion years. Far less than what we see in your prediction. Lets meat in this thread a half billion of years from now and if humanity is not extinct I pay whatever my monthly income is at that time to you, this is if you are willing to hold your end of the bet.

I would hope in half a billion years you would be retired. Enjoying a cozy hole six feet underground you know? Probably lose some weight too, just because there is less stress and stuff when your expired retired. Anyways you probably won't have a monthly salary.

Also this is the kinda place I'd go if I had a spaceship made of photons.
