OK, but what's the purpose of reviving mammoths, ecologically speaking?

Since they're adapted to cold climates, I could keep one as a pet. Here, Fuzzy, come on, boy!

{I don't see the point of reviving them. Humans killed them to extinction once already, and with the globe heating up, they'd just become extinct again}

Seems like there would be problems eventually with such a restricted gene pool.

The purpose? To further knowledge.

If you have to have ecological motivation to experiment, then you're going to have limits on the experiments you can conduct.

Like there was this scientist guy in Russia a while back who wanted to do experiments. Russia was like "Hey, you can do that, but it has to be for a logical purpose, and it has to be logical to us, and we're idiots" so the guy tried breeding tame foxes and said it was "to make better coats".

Interestingly enough, he eventually got tamer foxes who had some very dog-like physical features, like curly tails.

So hey, why not try to re-create a dinosaur? It's not like we can't shoot it if it gets too dangerous.

"Given the findings, Ogura advises conservationists and zoo personnel to collect testes from dead male animals as soon after death as possible, and to store them in ordinary freezers."

Hopefully not the ordinary freezers in the employee breakroom... "Hey Bob, those weren't your meatballs in the freezer, were they? They weren't labeled so I had them for lunch yesterday."
