I always figured that tampons should be made of oatmeal. Once used they could be cooked as a lovely Black pudding.

Many years ago, one of my friends told another one about using sea sponges this way.

Months later, we are all at first friends house. Second friend goes to the bathroom, and when she comes out, she looks frightened. She says she saw the giant sea sponge my first friend had in the shower, and remembered the conversation from before, and was scared for a moment! We all laughed!

Although sadly, for many women, we would need a bath sized sponge due to a heavier flow....
